The National Cleaner Production Centre has announced the launch of “National Cleaner Production (NCP) Awards 2025” a prestigious recognition program aimed at honouring Sri Lankan industries and organisations that demonstrate outstanding commitment to sustainable practices, resource efficiency, and environmental responsibility.
The “NCP Awards” serves as a benchmark for excellence in cleaner production, encouraging innovation and sustainability across diverse sectors of the economy.
NCPC Chief Executive Officer Samantha Kumarasena stated that the primary objective of the National Cleaner Production Awards is to encourage industries to adopt cleaner production principles, which focus on waste reduction, efficient use of raw materials and energy, minimisation of environmental impact, and the implementation of green technologies. The awards aim to create an environment to promote corporate responsibility and recognise organisations that successfully integrate sustainability into their business models.
Kumarasena further highlighted that the context of global climate change, resource scarcity, and the increasing emphasis on sustainable growth, our industrial sector faces the challenge of balancing economic progress with environmental responsibility. The NCP Awards 2025 recognise organisations that not only comply with environmental regulations but also go beyond compliance by introducing innovative, cost-effective, and eco-friendly solutions that enhance productivity and competitiveness.
By celebrating such achievements, the awards inspire other enterprises to follow suit, developing a culture of sustainability that aligns with Sri Lanka’s national sustainable development goals (SDGs) and global commitments such as the UN Sustainable Development Agenda. Cleaner production is not merely an environmental obligation but a strategic business advantage for long-term success, Kumarasena added.
The public, private and other organisations of both manufacturing and service sectors can apply for NCP Awards 2025 under “Large”, “Medium” and “Small” categories. Interested organisations may visit the NCPC website https://www.ncpcsrilanka.org/cp-awards-2025/. Wijeya Newspapers Ltd is the Print Media Sponsor for NCP Awards 2025.
In response to repeated requests from several organisations, the closing date for NCP Award applications has been extended to 7 August.
