Standard Chartered Bank will partner the 133rd Royal Thomian encounter as its official banker this March as the two schools clash once more in their 2012 ‘Battle of the Blues’ annual cricket match. The bank extends this sponsorship to the island’s oldest inter-school cricket ‘Big Match’ as a reiteration of its brand pledge ‘Here for Good’ in a market in which it has been present for over 150 years.

Head of Consumer Banking Sanjay Wijemanne and an old Royalist himself commented: “The ‘Battle of the Blues’ is eagerly awaited each year by schoolboys as well as us old boys, and we are proud to be associated with the event as its official banker in 2012. Standard Chartered Bank is happy to lend its support to the Royal Thomian match, as we believe school cricket is the crucible for young talent. May the best side win!”

The sponsorship cheque was handed over to the Principal Royal College, Upali Gunasekara and the Warden S. Thomas’ College, Prof. Indra de Soysa by Sanjay Wijemanne.
