SL karate team win 27 medals at California tournament

The 2014 Nihon Karatedo Itosukai tournament was held at Soka University in California USA on the 21 September. Karatekas from various countries including Japan, China, USA, Venezuela, Canada and Mexico participated in the tournament. Fifteen competitors from Lyceum International School, Nugegoda, Wattala, Panadura and one competitor from Hendala Dojo represented Sri Lanka through the Japan Karatedo Itosukai Sri Lanka branch and won 27 medals including 11 gold, seven silver and nine bronze medals. This is a highly commendable feat as it has been the first time that every single member of the team won a medal. The team was coached by Sensei R.J Alexander, the Head Coach of the Lyceum International Group of Schools. The karatekas who participated at the event were Malindu Lanerolle, Devnaka Porage, Sanura Lewangama, Pumudu Gamage, Ishan Rahman, Milinda Samaranayake, Ziard Falaldeen, Thivina Hemarathna, Nithesh Fernando, Ometh Rodrigo, Manuka Dilshan, Ravindiran Thanusan, Tharindu Samarakoon, Minthaka Gamage, Dulaj Kaluarachchi and Yoonus Rauff.
