Cape Town: The Cricket South Africa (CSA) Academy squad will depart on Sunday for a series against the Sri Lanka Emerging Squad.

The tour consists of three four-day unofficial ‘Test’ matches and three limited overs matches.

The squad includes several players who were part of the South Africa Under-19 side that won the ICC Junior World Cup last year as well as several others who have already made their mark at franchise level.

David White, the opening batsman from the Warriors, represented South Africa A on their tour to Australia last year.

“I’m happy with the academy squad we have this year,” commented Shukri Conrad, head coach of the academy squad. “The players are a very driven bunch of guys and have shown a high level of work ethic. They have been extremely receptive and willing to learn.

“Their game will benefit from the specialised training, and most of them have started to understand their game better. We also have a holistic approach and are trying to help the players mature in all aspects - psychologically, physically and in their technical approach to the game.”

Conrad also paid tribute to the work done by guest coaches, Charl Langeveldt and Nicky Boje, in preparing the team for the tour. “Any tour to the subcontinent is an important learning experience for our young cricketers. Spin bowling and seam bowling variations are very important under those conditions and these two experienced former internationals have made an invaluable contribution.”

SA Academy squad: Corbin Bosch (Northerns), Ruben Claassen (Northerns), Junior Dala (Titans), Clyde Fortuin (Warriors), Zubayr Hamza (WP), Heinrich Klaasen (Northerns), George Linde (WP), Aiden Markram (Northerns), Thandolwethu Mnyaka (Warriors), Tshepo Moreki (WP), Travis Muller (WP), Lesiba Ngoepe (WP), Diego Rosier (Knights), Somila Seyibokwe (Warriors), David White (Warriors)

Management: Shukri Conrad (head coach), JP Triegaardt (assistant coach), Maurice Aronstam (psychologist), Abram Ndhlovu (video analyst), Cliffe Deacon (physiotherapist)
