Record 5 Brandix teams in action at Mercantile Volleyball finals

A record five teams from the Brandix Group will compete at the finals of the 2013 Mercantile Volleyball Men’s and Women’s Tournament organised by the Mercantile Volleyball Association. The five Brandix teams vying for top honours are Brandix Intimate Apparel Minuwangoda in the Super League Men’s Final, Brandix Intimate Apparel Welisara in the Super League Women’s Final, Brandix Casualwear Katunayake and Brandix Casualwear Rideegama which meet each other to decide the 2013 Men’s Championship and Brandix Intimate Apparel Minuwangoda in the final of the Women’s Championship. Eight of the top teams at last year’s championship competed in the Super League. The finals are to be worked out at the National Youth Services Council (NYSC) complex in Maharagama on Sunday, 8 September. Three other Brandix teams, Brandix Intimate Apparel Welisara, Brandix Finishing Avissawella and Brandix Uknits Mirigama, took third place in the Men’s Super League, the Men’s Championship and the Women’s Championship respectively. “Having eight of the 12 teams that achieved the top three positions at this year’s Mercantile Volleyball Tournament is a noteworthy achievement indeed for Brandix, and demonstrates the support and encouragement the company extends to employees that play the sport,” said Colonel Sujith Jayasekara, Group HR Manager – Works HR of Brandix. The preliminaries of the 2013 Volleyball Tournament were held on 10 and 11 August at the NYSC. A total of 78 teams competed, with 23 of them representing companies in the Brandix Group. The group, which employs more than 44,000 associates, conducts its own annual volleyball tournament for the ‘Rasadiya Kusalanaya’ (Mercury Trophy), which is considered the largest volleyball tournament organised by a private company in Sri Lanka.
