BRISBANE, Australia,(AFP) : Queensland beat holders Tasmania by three wickets in a tense final to win Australia’s Sheffield Shield in Brisbane on Monday.
Queensland, chasing 133 runs to win on the fourth day of the scheduled five-day final, slumped to 88 for seven before Steve Magoffin (26 not out) and Chris Hartley (19 not out) got their side home in an unbroken 45-run stand.
In the first innings, Hartley (111) and Magoffin (31) put on 97 for the eighth wicket to turn the match for Queensland.
Queensland, who had to wait 68 years before winning their first Shield title in 1995, have now won the four-day domestic series seven times.
Match scores: Tasmania 241 and 167; Queensland 276 and 133 for 7.
