January 25-30 declared National Sports and Physical Fitness Week

Government has declared the week from the 25 to 30 January as the National Sports and Physical Fitness Week.

The decision was taken at a preliminary discussion on the subject held at the Presidential Secretariat on 28 Monday under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena with the participation of Minister of Sports Dayasiri Jayasekara and Secretary to the Ministry DMRB Dissanayake.

The initiative has been proposed to introduce healthy living through sports and physical training as well as to popularise sports among the people so as to create a sports culture within the country, the Government Information Department said.

Several programs will be held concurrently during the national week such as developing of walking lanes, shramadana campaigns and the reconstruction of sports grounds in addition to programs at Divisional Secretariat levels.
