Freightplan sets all time record in CASA softball cricket tournament history

Freightplan Ltd, member of the SAS Holdings group won the championship of the 17th CASA six-a-side softball cricket tournament for the year 2015 which was held at NCC grounds on 25 April. This was another milestone added to the 29 year History of Freightplan. Out of 56 participant teams, Freightplan went on an unbeaten winning spree to meet with Setmill United Cargo Ltd in the finals under flood lights to clinch the championship trophy in style. Freightplan bowled out the opponents in one over and two balls for six runs and won the match in just two balls; a historic record indeed. Captain of the cricket team S.M. Ranil Buddika indicated that the success behind their championship was determination, strategy and the complete unity to play as a winning team. They had no time to practice due to the office work as they gave priority to that but only two hours practice the day before the tournament. Freightplan Senior Executive Tharuka Vithanage attached to the sales division was the player of the tournament and the player of the finals. Tharuka was extremely grateful to the team and the management for the support he received, without which he could not achieve this milestone, which probably was a first in this tournament. His performance was indeed one of a kind displaying style and consistency of a very high cricketing standard. Attending the tournament from the quarter finals to see the performance and cheer his staff, SAS Holdings Group Chairman/Managing Director Gihan Nanayakkara expressed his great pleasure and appreciation towards the team and the supporters for this memorable victory. That was achieved against top level opponents and winning the finals in style. Nanayakkara has offered a special trophy with a cash prize of Rs. 500,000 valid for the next 10 years for a future finalist who would break this record.
