Chaaya Blu to feature international sailing regatta

Nestled in the scenic white beaches of Trincomalee, ChaayaBluTrincomaleeis proud to announce that the resort will be the official venue forthe renowned international sailing Regatta, the ‘Asian Optimist Championship’to be held from the 2nd-10th of June. Beckoning the arrival of the 80 – 120 competitors from across Asia who will be sailing the North Sea of Trincomalee,

chaayaBluTrincomaleegreets its visitors with gleaming white walls, floors, and furniture highlighted with denim trimmings and a dash of bright orange providing a sense of being amidst the picturesque sunrise in the ocean at all times.

The ‘Asian Optimist Championship’open to youth under the age of 16, is the world’s most popular class of sailing Dinghy with close to 200,000 boats being sailed worldwide. While each member nation nominates the members of its team, there will be separate races for both individuals and teams.The judging panelfor the championship will include an international team nominated by International Optimist Dinghy Association (IODA).

The championship will utilise the latest technology to disseminate real time information on the progress of the championship. Each boat is to be equipped with a GPS transporter that broadcasts its position to a program providing real-time tracking. This will also be reflected on the internet, giving the event’s international fans live updates anywhere in the world.

While Sri Lanka has hosted two previous sailing world championships, the ‘Asian Optimist Championship’ will be the largest sailing Regatta ever held in the country, providing a major boost for Trincomalee as a sailing venue and also as a tourist destination.
