Among the Group companies that won runners-up positions were BASL – Intimate Apparel, Minuwangoda in the Super League women’s final, BASL – Essentials, Ratmalana in the Men’s Championship and BASL – Intimate Apparel, Welisara in the Super League men’s final.
Three other Brandix teams, BASL – Intimate Apparel, Minuwangoda, BASL – Intimate Apparel, Welisara and BASL – Intimate Apparel, Polonnaruwa, took third place in the Men’s Super League, the Women’s Super League and the Men’s Championship respectively.
This was the second year in succession that five of the eight teams competing in the four matches of the finals were from companies in the Brandix Group.
Six Brandix players from the group’s two champion teams also won personal awards as Best Setter, Best Attacker, Best Player and Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament at the Women’s Championship and the Men’s Super League.
These players were Hasantha Perera (Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament), Asanka Sujeeva (Best Setter – Men’s Super League), Sumedha Champika (Best Attacker – Men’s Super League), Oshini Chapa (Best Player – Women’s Championship), Surekha Tharangani (Best Setter – Women’s Championship) and Kasuni Tharuka (Best Attacker – Women’s Championship).
Twenty six of the 92 teams that competed in the preliminary rounds of this year’s tournament were fielded by the Brandix Group.
Sri Lanka’s single largest apparel exporter, Brandix conducts its own annual volleyball tournament for the ‘Rasadiya Kusalanaya’ (Mercury Trophy), which is considered the largest volleyball tournament organised by a private company in the country.
