Executives of the top apparel export group Brandix proved they are as versatile on the sports field as they are at their jobs when they engaged in friendly but highly competitive sporting events at the Brandix Group Sports Fest 2010 at the CH&FC grounds in Colombo last week.

The Chief Guest at the event was veteran Sri Lankan Cricketer Chaminda Vaas.

About 1,500 competitors representing the 30 business units of the Group formed into eight houses to vie for honours at 13 events in a day-long sporting interaction that consisted of serious games of skill and fun competitions in equal measure.

At the end of the colourful fest, the house Zulu Warriors comprising of executives from Brandix Essentials emerged overall champions, whilst Victorious Secret (Brandix Lanka & Apparel) and The Vikings (Brandix Intimate Apparel) came in as joint runners-up.

The other houses that competed were ‘flda-Bras,’ ‘Delta Force,’ ‘Tekstila,’ ‘Kola Balakaaya,’ and ‘Jersey.’

The competitive events at the Sports Fest included Best House, Best Cheering Squad, Marathon, 100 Metre Sprint, Obstacle Race, 8x50 Relay, Water Relay, Dodge Ball, Tug-O-War, Tap Rugby, Veteran’s Race, a Fancy Dress Parade and a March Past.

“The enthusiasm and degree of engagement of competitors and spectators was commendably high, as was the spirit of competition,” said Ishan Dantanarayana, Chief People Officer of the Brandix Group. “Group-wide events such as these contribute tangibly to building team spirit and camaraderie among colleagues and business units.”
