The 134th Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championship will tee off at the Royal Colombo Golf Club today and will be worked off till 28 September.
Second oldest amateur golf championship in the world which commenced in 1891. This tournament is sponsored by CEAT International.
The men’s segment will begin with two qualifying rounds today and 24 where the top 32 aggregate gross scores will advance to the match play stage starting on 25.The championship final, played over 36 holes, is scheduled on the final day.
The women’s event will see the top eight players after qualifying rounds on 24 and 25 September, move into match play, culminating with a 36-hole final on the same day.
The Zia-Ul-Haq Trophy between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, the Parlakamedi Trophy involving other federations, and individual awards such as the Illankoon Trophy, PIN Fernando Trophy, and Leonard Pieris Cup.
Jevahn Sathasivam and Kaya Daluwatte will defend their titles.
Jevahn Sathasivam defends his title at the age of 16 years. From being the 30th amongst 32 qualifiers last year, he went on to take down some of the more fancied local and international opponents to win. While he has been out of golf for a while with injury plus his studies, he is peaking in form at correct time to defend his title. Meanwhile Kaya Daluwatte studying and playing golf in India too in top form recently in order to defend her Ladies title.
