A new Women’s World Cup winner will be crowned on Sunday after the two finalists were confirmed for the 50-over showcase.
India’s stunning victory over Australia in Navi Mumbai on Thursday means the two teams that will battle it out in the final of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 have now been confirmed.
The tournament hosts will take on South Africa in the one-off decider at 3pm (local time) on Sunday, meaning a team will claim the coveted Women’s World Cup trophy for the very first time.
It is the first time South Africa have featured in a Women’s World Cup Final, while India previously played in the title decider in 2005 and 2017 when they finished as the runners up behind Australia and England respectively.
India will be boosted by the fact that Sunday’s final will be held at the same venue of their memorable semi-final success against Australia, with another large and parochial crowd expected at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
India were undefeated at the ground during the tournament, with the side registering victories over New Zealand in the league stage and Australia in the semi-finals alongside a no result with Bangladesh. South Africa have never played at the venue.
