Wesley College produced a dominant all-round performance to launch their 2026 rugby season under Kaizer Lye in emphatic fashion, thrashing newly promoted Prince of Wales College 69-12 in their Dialog Schools Under-19 Rugby League 2026 encounter at Havelock Park on Thursday.

The Double Blues stamped their authority early and never looked back, running in a flurry of tries with pace, structure, and clinical finishing.

By the short breather, Wesley had already built a commanding 28-5 lead, leaving their opponents struggling to keep up with the tempo.

In the end, the Double Blues went on to plant 11 tries, while the Moratuwa outfit could reply with only two of them, lacked the finishers.

Wesley opened the scoring through a well-worked try by Prarthana Rodrigo, with Akash Ryan adding the conversion. Prince of Wales responded through forwards play, crossing the line via Suren Nimsara after a number of attacks. They opted to play with their forwards but the Wesley defence was rock solid, not allowing free movement.

Wesley quickly regained control. Fly-half Shifan Inthikab, who orchestrated play superbly throughout the match, added his name to the scoresheet with a try, once again converted by Ryan. Further first-half tries from Liam Onasiz and Manuga Jayaweera extended the lead, while Ahyan Johar added valuable conversions.

The second half saw no let-up from Wesley, who continued to pile on the points with ruthless efficiency. Rodrigo and Inthikab each grabbed two more tries, while Mohamed Fawas, Johan Fernando, Jayaweera, and Hivin Uthmika also crossed the whitewash in a relentless attacking display.

Johar maintained a steady boot, adding the extras to cap off an impressive individual contribution. Wesley’s fitness and expansive style proved too much for the visitors, who struggled to contain the waves of attack.

Prince of Wales managed a late consolation try through Adil Fernando, with Raveesha Maduwantha converting, but it did little to dent Wesley’s overwhelming dominance.

Referee Tharindu Perera officiated the match. (SJ)
