  • We can give a good challenge – SL ‘A’ skipper Sathya
  • Three-match Women’s unofficial T20 series commences today

New Zealand ‘A’ having got the measure of Sri Lanka ‘A’ in the third and final unofficial WODI will be looking to extend that win into the three-match unofficial women’s T20 series starting at the Rangiri Dambulla Cricket Stadium today.

“We’ve got the tempo so the girls are pretty excited. We saw them at the start in their shell a little bit but in the last game they really came out of it and showed us what they could do. Really excited to see what they can do in the T20 series,” said New Zealand ‘A’ Women skipper Jess Watkins.

‘We’ve got some powerful hitters especially for the size of some of the girls they hit pretty hard. We are comfortable with our skills. We just have a few things to work on.”

“Sri Lanka is a really tough side. I think it’s going to be a close series especially with the rain staying away hopefully. We got footage of some of the players but at the end of the day we’ve got to stick to our strengths and hope for the best.”

Sri Lanka ‘A’ Women’s team skipper Sathya Sandeepani was hopeful that her team can bounce back following their 1-0 WODI series loss especially with some new players coming into the squad.

“I think we can give a good challenge to New Zealand in the T20s. We have got five new players who have joined the team and they are ready for competition. Following the WODIs it is a totally different game. I think our players can perform well.” – [ST]
