Vilochana strikes first century as Tier B 3-day gets underway

Rusiru Vilochana struck the first century

Former Nalanda College cricketer Rusiru Vilochana struck the first century on the opening day of the Tier B 3-day tournament when he scored an undefeated 120 for Sebastianites against Leo CC at Salawa Army ground, Kosgama yesterday.

Opening the batting Vilochana hit 15 fours in his 170-ball knock to see Sebastianites end the day on 201-2 off 59 overs. With Sandun Fernando (66 off 167 balls, 8 fours), Vilochana shared a second wicket stand of 188 off 322 balls.  

Star-studded SSC led by national cap Avishka Fernando began well by dismissing Kandy Customs SC for 155 at Army ground, Dombagoda. Seamer Kasun Rajitha (3/19), and spinners Prabath Jayasuriya (3/50) and Charith Asalanka (3/35) were the chief wicket-takers. By stumps SSC were 13 without loss.

Galle CC struggled to 191-7 by stumps against Moratuwa SC at Samadhi ground, Anuradhapura. Four batsmen got into the 30s with Amith Eranda making the highest of 37. The wickets were shared by Navin Kavikara, Methushan Thilina and Imesh Udayanga with two apiece.

United Southern SC invited to bat first scored 136-4 against Colombo Malay CC at Mahinda Rajapaksa Cricket Stadium, Hambantota. Nipuna Gamage made a top score of 44. All matches will continue on the second day today. – [ST]
