National Ranking Golf Tournament

The opening day of the National Ranking Golf Tournament, conducted by Sri Lanka Golf, got underway at Rajawella yesterday, with top professionals and emerging amateurs battling it out for early supremacy in the three-day event.

Experienced campaigner and Professional Golfer, Vijitha Bandara produced a top-class performance in the men’s division, carding an impressive 68 to take the overnight lead. Displaying consistency and control throughout his round, Bandara set the benchmark in a competitive field.

Youngster, Kumar Danushan followed in second place with a score of 70, while a tightly contested battle for third, saw Professional Golfer Mithun Perera, Chanaka Perera, and Aruna Jeewantha all tied on 75, keeping the leaderboard wide open heading into the next round.

In the girls’ division, Sithara Lawrance took the early lead with a solid score of 86. She was followed by Keya Abayaratne, who returned a score of 90 to remain within striking distance.

With two more days of competition remaining, the tournament is finely poised as players look to build momentum and improve their standings. The second round, scheduled for today at Rajawella, is expected to intensify the contest as leading contenders aim to consolidate their positions.
