Vandersay takes five to keep Tamil Union on top

Former Sri Lanka white-ball leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay took 5/13 to allow Tamil Union to retain their top position in Group B with a two-wicket win over Saracens SC in a Major Limited Over match played at the P. Sara Oval yesterday.

SSC, returned to almost-full strength with the return of Sri Lanka white-ball batsman Avishka Fernando, recorded their first win of the tournament, beating Badureliya SC by 147 runs at Maggona. Fernando, Krishan Sanjula and skipper Shammu Ashan all made half-centuries for SSC in their total of 252/8. Badureliya SC were shot out for 105.

In the other matches concluded yesterday, Kandy Customs CC and Lankan CC recorded victories, while the match between Kurunegala YCC and Negombo CC ended in a no-result at the Welagedera Stadium – Kurunegala without a ball bowled due to a wet outfield.

nAt Surrey Village, Maggona: SSC 252-8 (50) (Avishka Fernando 58, Krishan Sanjula 53, Shammu Ashan 84*, Ruchira Koshitha 2/46) beat Badureliya SC 105 (33.5) (Asanka Silva 33, Lakshitha Manasinghe 2/21, Prabath Jayasuriya 3/23) by 147 runs. 

nAt Welagedera Stadium, Kurunegala: Kurunegala YCC v Negombo CC – No Result (not a ball bowled)

nAt Moratuwa: Kandy Customs CC 175 (48.2) (Sajith de Silva 22, Rashmika Madushanka 28, Umega Chaturanga 26*, Sahan Nanayakkara 2/19, Kevin Perera 2/40) beat Nugegoda SWC 74 (30.2) (Pathum Madushanka 20, Umega Chaturanga 4/12, Sachitra Perera 2/17, Methushan Thilina 3/8) by 101 runs. 

nAt Panagoda: Lankan CC 216 (44.5) (Lahiru Dilshan 73, Risith Upamal 32, Deshan Dias 26, Mahesh Priyadarshana 5/42, Asantha Basnayake 3/39) beat Kalutara TC 122 (35.2) (Romesh Nallaperuma 32*, Kasun Madushanka 2/36, Damith Silva 3/15, Rajeewa Weerasinghe 3/14) by 94 runs.  – (ST)
