Last year’s finalist and current Major League champions Bloomfield bowed out of the SLC Major Clubs T20 tournament when Moors SC scored a crushing 41 runs win over them in the quarter-final played at the P Sara Oval yesterday.

Inviting Moors SC to bat first, Bloomfield restricted their batting to 156-7 through some splendid leg-spin bowling by Jeffrey Vandersay who finished with figures of 3/20.

Bloomfield in their turn wiped out 56 of those runs losing just one wicket, but once the spinners came on struggled for runs and were dismissed for 115, with their remaining 9 wickets falling for 59 runs. Opener Ron Chandraguptha played a lone hand for 74 off 55 balls (6 fours, 3 sixes) scoring 64 percent of the total runs his side made. He was ninth out at 115 as spinners Praveen Jayawickrama (3/21) and Ramesh Mendis (2/14) ripped through the Bloomfield batting.

In the other semi-final played for the day, Panadura SC stunned Colts by pulling off a 34-run win at the CCC grounds.

Colts were bundled out for 99 chasing a moderate target of 134 their batsmen falling foul to former Panadura St John’s College seamer Sahan Mihira (4/23) and former Peterite leg-spinner Vishen Halambage (4/13) – both returning career best figures. Towards the halfway mark Colts were nicely placed at 64-1 with Sangeeth Cooray contributing 32 off 28, but collapsed through a combination of poor batting and bad judgment. Panadura SC choosing to bat first after winning the toss made 133-8 with Dunith Wellalage, leading Colts ending with figures of 3/10.

The semi-final line-up for today at the CCC grounds:

  • NCC v Panadura SC at 3 p.m.
  • CCC v Moors SC at 7.30 p.m.
