CCC and Bloomfield entered the final of the Under-23 inter-club 2-day tournament when they won their semi-final matches in the first innings yesterday.
CCC resuming from their overnight total of 123-6 at the SSC grounds were all out for 179 with Sahan Kosala making a top score of 41. Nugegoda SWC in reply were dismissed for 143 despite a valiant knock of 69 off 97 balls (6 fours) from Captain Akram Muthalib. The damage to the Nugegoda SWC batting was done by seamer Duvindu Ranatunga (3/37) and left-arm spinner Inuka Karanagoda (3/31). By stumps in their second innings CCC scored 61-2.
In the other semi-final played at the NCC grounds, Bloomfield took first innings points off Negombo CC. Negombo CC were bundled out for 116 by former Kandy Dharmaraja seamer Nisala Abeyrathne (5/24). Asitha Wanninayake hit 8 fours and a six in his 132-ball 69* to take Bloomfield past Negombo CC’s total finishing on 147-5 after they were 53-4 at one stage.
CCC and Bloomfield will meet in the final at the SSC grounds on 23 and 24 September. – [ST]
