  • West Indies lead 7-match series 3-2

Sri Lanka’s Vigneshawaran Akash, the leading wicket-taker in the series with 15 wickets

Following two back-to-back defeats in the fourth and fifth matches of the seven-match Under-19 Youth ODI series against West Indies, Sri Lanka are facing a must win situation to save the series when they take on the hosts in the sixth match at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua today.

West Indies currently lead the series 3-2 and a loss here by Sri Lanka will give the hosts an unbeatable lead with a game to play. If Sri Lanka wins the series will be tied at 3-all with all to play for in the seventh and final match on 15 September at the same venue.

Sri Lanka lost the fourth and fifth matches narrowly by two wickets, one on the DLS method with 2 balls to spare and the other with 14 balls to spare. In both matches Sri Lanka failed to play out their full quota of 50 overs and were disappointingly dismissed for scores of 182 and 172 not offering the West Indies any sort of challenging score to chase.

The only bright star for Sri Lanka in the series so far has been right-arm leg-spinner from Hartley College, Jaffna, Vigneshwaran Akash who is the leading wicket-taker with 15 wickets from five matches at an average of 8.60.
