Tuskers, Titans joint champs at inaugural Almas Foundation Zahira Matale Hockey League

Zahira Tuskers and Zahira Titans were crowned as the joint champions at the recently concluded Almas Foundation Zahira College Matale Hockey League 2025 at iconic Nandimithra International Hockey Stadium.

The tournament was launched with an aim to fund hockey at Zahira College, Matale.

Zahira College, Matale, popular for the game of hockey and having produced several excellent national players in the sport, witnessed a historic day sports at the inaugural Hockey League 2025, the first of its kind.

The tournament brought together Zahira College Matale’s vibrant past and energetic present generations of the sport in a celebration of hockey, heritage, and heartfelt unity.

The competition delivered high-octane matches and emotional moments.

Tuskers, owned by Imran Brothers, and Titans, owned by the spirited Dr. Riyas Ariff of Batch 91, found their way to final after fierce competition.

Zahira Lions secured the Plate Championship, while Zahira Rhinos took the Plate Runners-up position.

In the Bowl category, Emperor emerged as champions, with Sharks finishing as the runners-up—highlighting the fierce competition and talent on display throughout the day.

The tournament also recognized outstanding individual talent.

M.I.M. Azeez of Titans was adjudged as Player of the Tournament, while young prodigy Hamdan from Zahira Heroes was named the Most Outstanding Young Player.

M. Nazardeen of Tuskers was honoured with the Most Valuable Veteran award in the League, while Uzman, also from the Tuskers, earned the title as the Best Goalkeeper.

High Commissioner of Malaysia to Sri Lanka and the Maldives Badli Hisham Adam, was the Chief Guest at the final while former National Coach and Zahira College, Matale product A.J.M. Farook and Zahira College, Matale, Principal A.L.M.A. Azeez, were the Guests of Honour.

Almas Foundation, along with Kith Lanka, UAE Zahirians, Aida Cars, Singer, Richsonic, and V2 Ceramic (Ahsan & Ihsan) were the key sponsors for the inaugural league.
