Trinity kicked off their President’s Trophy Knockout Rugby Tournament with a massive 62/5 win over Katugastota Antonians at Longdon Place last weekend.

The game, which was played under floodlights with a packed stadium, saw the Lions leading 29/0 at the short breather.

Trinity were in total domination; though many expected the Antonians to give a good account of themselves, the lads from Katugastota looked a total mismatch. The Lions combined well with their forwards and three-quarters, who touched down on nine occasions, where seven of them were converted while adding a penalty as well. The Antonians replied with a solitary try.

The Trinity tries were scored by Bilal Nazeer, Manusha Silva, Udan Wijekoon, Evin Jayasena, Minula Yaddehige (3), and Avishka Jayasekera touched down. Fullback Shan Althaf, who had a grand game, converted seven of the tries, plus added a solitary penalty. Senarathne touched down for the Antonians’ only try. Trinity played minus their skipper, Shafraz Usmaan, who is nursing an injury and is likely to make a comeback in their quarterfinal encounter against the Thomians.

The referee was Suranga Aruna Shantha.

Following are the outcomes of other matches.
