Trinity College produced the most dominant performance of Dialog Schools Rugby League 2026 Week 7, overwhelming Royal College 48/15 in a commanding Cup segment clash at the Royal Sports Complex last weekend, while there was a close win for the Peterites and Ananda claimed a win over the Thomians after a long drought period.

The Kandy lads ran in seven tries and controlled proceedings from the outset, showing their superior pace, power, and execution. Royal struggled to contain Trinity’s attacking waves as the visitors crossed repeatedly to record one of the biggest victories of the Cup segment this season.

The comprehensive win further strengthened Trinity’s title credentials as they continue to build momentum in the competition. Trinity forwards and three-quarters combined well under very difficult wet conditions at the Royal Complex with superior ball handling. Trinity, a team which travelled to Colombo more than any other team, completely demolished any Royal hope of a recovery. Nisith Kumarasinghe, Udan Wijekoon, skipper Shan Althaf, Achintha Jayasena, and Evin Jayasena were omnipresent. Royal threatened to make a comeback but Trinity had complete control of the game.

At Havelock Park, St. Peter’s College survived a fierce challenge from Isipathana College to register a thrilling 29/25 victory in one of the most entertaining encounters of the season.

The lead changed hands several times before the Peterites held their nerve in the closing stages. Both teams scored five tries each, but the difference came through the successful conversions, with the Bambalapitiya school edging ahead in a genuine nail-biter.

The biggest surprise of the weekend came in the Plate segment where Ananda College stunned traditional rivals S. Thomas’ College 37/24 at the Ananda Rugby Ground in Rajagiriya.

The victory marked Ananda’s first League win over the Mount Lavinia school in more than two decades, ending a long drought and giving the Maradana outfit a memorable triumph. Ananda crossed for five tries and produced one of their finest performances in recent years.

Meanwhile, Thurstan College continued their impressive run with a 27/17 win over Sumangala College at Sugathadasa Stadium. Thurstan’s balanced display ensured they collected another valuable victory in the Plate segment.

In the Bowl segment encounter at Police Park, Lumbini College defeated Mahanama College 38/31 in a high-scoring contest, with both teams entertaining spectators through expansive attacking rugby and 10 tries between them.

With two more games for each team, Trinity, the defending champions who won the League last year under Usmaan Safraz, look in control, with two games left to be played in Colombo against Zahira and St. Peter’s. Meanwhile, competition for the Plate is between Joes, Thurstan, and Ananda, while the Bowl includes DS and Kingswood.
