Trinity College produced a clinical first-half display to overpower Thurstan College 48/19 in their Dialog Schools Rugby League Week 3 encounter played at Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday.

At the short breather it was the Lions who led 36/7.

From the outset, the Lions roared into action, dominating possession and territory. Their relentless attacking rugby saw them score six tries before the half-time whistle, racing to a 36/7 lead at the short breather. Trinity’s ability to stretch the Thurstan defence with swift passing and well-coordinated forward drives was a hallmark of their performance.

Thurstan showed commendable grit in the second half, responding with a couple of well-constructed tries of their own. Thurstan defended really well when Trinity played a back foot game more than 20 minutes in the latter half. Both teams managed to score 2 tries in the later half but Trinity early lead took them home comfortably in the end.

Trinity rested their two Co-Vice Captains, Shan Althaf and Nisith Kumarasinghe for this outing but gained the much needed bonus point in the end.

Trinity scored their tries through Minula Yaddehige (2), Avishka Jayasekera, Shafraz Usmaan, Sadeesha Weerawansa, Kevin Weerakoon, Hameed Malik and Shyran Satheeshkumar. Four of the tries were successfully converted by Sadeesha Weerawansa.

For Thurstan their tries were scored by Sithija Jayathilake (2) and Dasun Nimsara. Akeesha Pushpakumara converted one of the tries.

Referee was Charani Liyanage.

Royal beat Joes 33/14

Royal College extended their unbeaten run in the Dialog Schools Rugby League 2025 with a commanding 33/14 win over St. Joseph’s College last evening.

At the short breather the score was 19/7.

The Royalists dominated proceedings from the outset, scoring five tries and converting four, showing their well-structured attacking patterns and physical dominance.

Joes fought back with two converted tries, but they struggled to match Royal’s pace and tactical execution, particularly in the breakdown and set pieces.

With this victory, Royal have now secured three consecutive wins.

Referee was Raveen Alexander.
