Bad weather takes the upper hand

The Tier B T20 tournament also continued to suffer the same fate as the Major Clubs T20 with a winning result being reached in only two of the six matches played.

Both results were obtained in the two matches played at Air Force grounds in Katunayake.

Moratuwa SC beat Kandy Customs CC by 8 wickets (DLS method). Kandy Custom’s CC scored 57-4 off 13 overs batting first with Sudheera Weeraratne making a top score of 31*. Moratuwa SC with a revised target of 54 to chase off 10 overs scored 54-2 in 8.2 with Poorna Prabath contributing 21*. In the second match played at the same venue veteran left-arm spinner Upul Indrasiri’s T20 career best performance of 4/9 failed to stop United Southern SC from beating Ragama CC by 4 wickets. Ragama CC managed only 67 off 18.5 overs and United Southern SC despite the Ragama CC captain’s valiant bowling effort replied with 68-6 in 18 overs with Denuwan Rajakaruna scoring 22*.

The Sebastianites v Galle CC game ended in a no-result at the SSC grounds with only 9 overs possible during which period Sebastianites batting first scored 33-4.

The following three matches were abandoned without a ball bowled – Navy SC v Negombo CC at SSC grounds, Army SC v Leo CC and Malay CC v SSC both matches at Surrey Village grounds, Maggona.

The tournament continues today with a card of six matches:

At Surrey Village: Malay CC v Navy SC 9.45 a.m., SSC v Galle CC 2 p.m.
At Bloomfield grounds: Sebastianites v Negombo CC 9.45 a.m., Army SC v Moratuwa SC 2 p.m.
At Army grounds Dombagoda: Leo CC v United Southern SC 9.45 a.m., Kandy Customs SC v Ragama CC 2 p.m.
