Hansaja Hiruna 6/47 for Negombo CC, Yuthika de Silva scored 81 in Galle CC’s win, Sutharshan Subarnan bowled Sebastianites to victory over United Southern SC
Army SC and Galle CC maintained their undefeated record in Group B of the Tier B 50-over tournament registering their third consecutive win yesterday.
Army SC ended Chilaw Marians CC’s successful runs with a 23-run win (DLS method) at Surrey grounds, Maggona. Chilaw Marians CC were all out for 154 in 32.3 overs with skipper Kasun Vidura making a top score of 68 off 65 balls (9 fours, 1 six). Army SC replied with 122-4 in 24 overs when bad light ended the match. At that point Army SC were ahead on the DLS run rate.
Galle CC also won on the DLS method beating Kandy Customs SC by 48 runs at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Hambantota. Galle CC rattled off 261-9 with Yuthika de Silva scoring 81 off 75 balls (8 fours, 2 sixes) and skipper Amith Eranda 41 off 44. Kandy Customs SC chasing a revised target of 256 in 47 overs managed only 207-9 with Eranda shining with the ball taking 3/41. Kaveesha Induwara top scored with 53* off 57 balls (5 fours, 1 six).
Kurunegala SC pulled off a thrilling four-run win against Negombo CC at Air Force grounds, Katunayake. Negombo CC chasing 256 for victory managed 251-8 despite Dinitha Lochana scoring 79 off 99 balls (7 fours, 2 sixes). Half-centuries from Dilshan Kollure (69 off 82 balls, 2 fours, 2 sixes) and Rajitha Rathnayake (61 off 91 balls, 6 fours) saw Kurunegala SC reach 255. Right-arm seamer Hansaja Hiruna took 6/47.
In the other matches completed Southern teams Moratuwa SC and Sebastianites both won their respective matches. Moratuwa SC beat Navy SC by four wickets (DLS method) at De Soysa Stadium, Moratuwa. Navy SC’s innings ended at 129-9 in 35.3 overs with rain curtailing play. Moratuwa SC chasing a revised target of 96 replied with 98-6.
Sebastianites edged out United Southern CC by seven runs (DLS method) at SLLDC, Kirimandala. Eranga Jayakody’s knock of 74* off 120 balls (5 fours) enabled Sebastianites total 184-8. United Southern SC chasing a revised target of 147 in 31 overs finished on 139-9. Former Jaffna Hindu College captain Sutharsan Subarnan took 4/11 with spin and Punsara Sandaruwan 3/23 with pace.
The match between Leo CC and Ragama CC at Salawa Army grounds, Kosgama was abandoned without a ball bowled due to bad weather. [ST]
Major Club T20 tournament First win for Nugegoda SWC

Nugegoda SWC registered their first win in the Major Club T20 tournament when they beat BRC by 26 runs at Police Park yesterday.
Nugegoda SWC defended their small total of 105 by dismissing BRC for 79. Left-arm spinners Nimesh Vimukthi (3/14) and Ruchira Koshitha (3/30) did the main damage to the innings. [ST]
