Tier B 3-day league Table leaders SSC shot out for 101 by Leo CC

For the third time in successive weekends Tier B 3-day league table leaders SSC found themselves at the receiving end in the first innings of a match when they were shot out for 101 by Leo CC on the opening day at Air Force grounds, Katunayake yesterday.

22 wickets fell during the day where Leo CC invited to bat first were bowled out for 160 and in their second innings were 28-2 to lead overall by 87 runs going into the second day today.

The damage to the SSC innings was done by off-spinners Malshan Gunasinghe (5/28) and Githmin Colombage (4/37). In the Leo CC innings, it was SSC’s left-arm spinner Gishan Balasooriya who was instrumental in their downfall taking 5/64. Akeel Inam top scored for Leo CC with 53 off 75 balls (6 fours, 1 six).

High scoring featured the matches involving United Southern SC and Army SC. United Southern SC racked up the highest total of the day making 376-6 against Navy SC at Welisara. A double century opening partnership of 202 off 240 balls between Adithya Siriwardhana (143 off 220 balls, 18 fours, 1 six) and Adeesha Nanayakkara (114 off 107 balls, 11 fours, 5 sixes) laid the base for their big total.

Army SC also went on a run-spree against Moratuwa SC at the De Soysa Stadium, Moratuwa piling up 355-9 courtesy a third wicket partnership of 149 by Pathum Dilshan (105 off 151 balls, 9 fours, 1 six) and Tharindu Dilanka (99 off 148 balls, 11 fours). Part-time off-spinner Rashmika Mevan picked up 3/18.

Galle CC hit up a first day total of 296-8 against Ragama CC at the Moors SC grounds. Supun Kavinda top scored with 80 off 100 balls (12 fours) and Ramesh Nimantha made 48. Veteran left-arm spinner Upul Indrasiri took 3/79 to complete 50 wickets in the tournament.

On a restricted first day at Army ground, Dombagoda, Kandy Customs SC put into bat first scored 213-5 in 61.4 overs against Negombo CC. Ashan Randika and Lakshan Gamage scored identical fifties – 52. Randika took 109 balls (7 fours, 1 six) and Gamage 66 balls (4 fours, 1 six). – [ST]
