Tier B 3-day league SSC take upper hand against Navy SC

Newly crowned Tier B 3-day league champions SSC were in a strong position at the end of the second day of their match against Navy SC at Welisara yesterday.

In reply to their first innings 251, SSC had captured eight Navy SC wickets for 182 runs by the close. Former Royal College captain and left-arm spinner Gishan Balasooriya was the main wrecker of the Navy SC batting ending with figures of 5/69. Raveen Tharindu was unbeaten on 40. Earlier, SSC resuming at their overnight total of 242-7 couldn’t make much headway being all out for 251. Left-arm spinner Dilanka Auwardt captured 6 for 96.

Bottom of the table Colombo Malay CC were in a bad way against Negombo CC at the BRC grounds. Negombo CC continuing their innings scored 397 with Sheshan Fernando making 75 off 79 balls (6 fours, 4 sixes) and left-arm spinner Chanaka Devinda taking 6/152. The off-breaks of Amith Perera (4/38) rattled their batting, ending the day at 106-7 to trail by 291.

Kandy Customs SC took control of their match against Galle CC at Army grounds, Dombagoda. In this low scoring game Galle CC bowled out for 76 in the first innings and were 93-4 in their second – an overall lead of 37 with 6 second innings wickets in hand. Kandy Customs SC scored 132 with spinners Rajeeva Weerasinghe and Chatura Randunu taking seven wickets between them. 

Pubudu Bandara hit an unbeaten century (111* off 160 balls, 10 fours, 3 sixes) and Gavin Boteju and skipper Chanaka Ruwansiri 50s apiece to help Moratuwa SC declare at 365-7 in their match against Sebastianites at De Soysa Stadium, Moratuwa. Right-arm seamer Bishan Hettiarachchi took 4/103. By the close Sebastianites were 31-3.

Ragama CC collapsed from 187-3 to 251 all out in their match against Leo CC at Salawa Army grounds, Kosgama. Chanaka Wijesinghe top scored with 63 off 130 balls (4 fours) and off-spinner Malshan Gunasinghe took 5/86. By the close brought forward by bad light and rain Leo CC had replied with 58-1.

Army SC boosted by a half-century from Pathum Dilshan (61 off 124 balls, 7 fours) ended a rain-hit first day on 158-4 against United Southern SC at Army grounds, Panagoda.
