In the final match of the season, Tier B 3-day league champions SSC winning the toss and batting first notched up the highest total of the day – 354 all out against Moratuwa SC at De Soysa Stadium, Moratuwa yesterday.

It is a total where SSC with their penetrative bowling line-up will look towards pulling off an outright win to end the season on a high. Among the runs was former Trinity College and Sri Lanka Under 19 top order batsman Ranuda Somarathne who scored a compact century (137 off 217 balls, 12 fours, 3 sixes) and his partnership of 160 with acting captain Nuwanidu Fernando who made a sedate 84 off 108 balls (7 fours). Shevon Daniel chipped in with 45 off 49 balls. Off-spinner Chanaka Ruwansiri was the pick of the Moratuwa SC bowlers finishing with 4/97.

Second placed Negombo CC took a step towards finishing runner-up to SSC when they ended the opening day of their fixture against Navy SC at Welisara capturing 3 Navy SC wickets for 33 after scoring 262. Keshan Wanniarachchi (94 off 182 balls, 12 fours) and skipper Angelo Jayasinghe (90 off 133 balls, 5 fours) both missed out on centuries as they partnered in a stand of 153 for the fifth wicket. Dilanka Auwardt, the former Benedictine left-arm spinner was once again amongst the wickets taking 8/113 off 35.1 overs.

Bottom of the table Colombo Malay CC had a tough day in office against Ragama CC who hit up 291 and had them reeling at 59-5 by stumps in their match played at the BRC grounds. Wicket-keeper/opening bat Manisha Rupasinghe hit a sparkling 113 off 105 balls (13 fours, 2 sixes) and shared an opening stand of 88 with Sahil Dias (28) to lay the foundation for Ragama CC’s total. Kemira Wijenayake (52), Ravindu Sembakutty (40) and captain Upul Indrasiri (35) contributed down the order.

Army SC was the other team to top the 300-run mark for the day when they scored 336 against Sebastianites at Army ground, Panagoda. Opener Harshajith Rushan was Army SC’s mainstay scoring 135 off 258 balls (17 fours). Left-arm spinner Hashan Sandeepa took 5/89. Sebastianites were 8-0 at stumps.

Leo CC has already gained a first innings lead over Kandy Customs SC at Air Force grounds, Katunayake. Githmin Colombage picked up 6/57 to dismiss Kandy Customs SC for 172 where 60 of those runs came from the bat of opener and captain Malindu Maduranga (66 balls, 10 fours). Leo CC were all out by the close for 243, gaining a lead of 71. Hirun Sigera contributed a hard hit 74 off 62 balls (7 fours, 3 sixes) and off-spinner Mithun Jayawickrama took 4/86.

The seam and spin of Tharush Damindu (4/84) and Kavindu Ediriweera (4/73) saw Galle CC put out for 242 at Surrey Village grounds, Maggona. By stumps United Southern SC had scored 52-0. Skipper Amith Eranda top scored for Galle CC with 51.
