Thrilling wins for Army SC, Moratuwa SC on a rain-hit day

On a rain-affected day Army SC and Moratuwa SC recorded thrilling victories in the Tier B T20 tournament matches played yesterday.

Army SC pulled off a five-run win against Navy SC at Air Force grounds, Katunayake. The soldiers defended their moderate total of 116 by restricting Navy SC to 113-8. Former Sri Lanka white ball captain Thisara Perera shone for Army SC with a 42-ball 51* which comprised six fours and one six. Leg-spinner Ishan Abeysekara took 4/7 that included four wickets in four balls and a hat-trick for Navy SC.

In another low scoring game played at the same venue, Moratuwa SC beat Chilaw Marians CC by 10 runs. Moratuwa SC scored 110-9 and dismissed Chilaw Marians CC for 100.

Ragama CC won under the DLS method beating Kandy Customs SC by 22 runs at Army grounds, Dombagoda. Hasith Perera (70* off 51 balls, 1 four, 5 sixes) and skipper Ranmith Jayasena (52 off 28 balls, 7 fours, 1 six) hit fifties apiece and shared a stand of 88 off 54 balls for Ragama CC to 147-5 in 16 overs. Kandy Customs SC replied with 88-5 in 12.3 overs.

Leo CC defeated Kurunegala SC by 16 runs (DLS method) at the same venue. Leo CC scored 128-8 and Kurunegala SC chasing a target of 42 in five overs managed just 25-5.

The match between United Southern CC and Negombo CC at PUS Academy grounds, Kalutara ended in a no-result due to rain. United Southern CC batting first scored 179-5 with Damesh Mathishan making 52 off 43 balls (4 fours, 2 sixes) and Pesandu Sanjan 47 off 27 balls. Negombo CC didn’t bat.

The second match to be played at the same venue between Sebastianites and Galle CC was abandoned without a ball bowled. (ST)
