Tharindu Chathuranga better known as Eheli, the dynamic former Kingswood College flanker and seasoned Sri Lanka national player, is tipped to lead Kandy Sports Club for the 2025/2026 rugby season.

This move comes as no surprise to rugby enthusiasts who have followed Tharindu’s unwavering commitment and tenacity on the field. A product of the Radles Hills school, he has matured into one of the most dependable figures in the local rugby circuit.

Having donned the Kingswood College 1st XV from 2011 to 2013 soon after leaving school joining the champion, Kandy Sports Club in the same year in 2013. Tharindu joined Kingswood College from Eheliyagoda Central where he started rugby in 2007 and shifted his base to Central Region in late 2010.

Now entering his 12th year with Kandy SC, Tharindu stands as a symbol of loyalty and consistency. Over the years, he has played an instrumental role in the club’s continued dominance of domestic rugby. His experience at both club and national level brings a wealth of knowledge that will be invaluable as Kandy SC aims to defend their titles in the upcoming season.

On the international stage, Tharindu’s impact was immediate. Earning his national jersey in 2013, he proved his mettle during the recently concluded Asia Rugby Top 4 Championship, locking horns with formidable sides such as Hong Kong, South Korea, and the UAE. His performances were marked by grit and courage, earning respect across the region.

With Kandy SC gearing up to defend both the league and the prestigious Clifford Cup, Tharindu’s appointment as skipper could not have come at a better time. His leadership is expected to galvanise the team as they chase more silverware, reinforcing Kandy SC’s status as the powerhouse of Sri Lankan club rugby.
