Veteran professional golfer Nadaraja Thangaraja proved his class yet again by clinching the June National Ranking Tournament 2025 title in emphatic style, finishing with a stunning total of 265 after four days of top-tier golf at the Royal Colombo Golf Club yesterday.
Thangaraja, one of Sri Lanka’s most accomplished professional golfers, delivered a brilliant display of consistency and control, carding impressive rounds of 68, 65, 66, and 66. His remarkable form saw him finishing 12 strokes ahead of his nearest rival, showing the gap in class and experience. After trailing early on day one, Thangaraja surged ahead from round two and never looked back, maintaining his lead till the final hole of the tournament.
Kumar Danushan who initially led after the first round, delivered an excellent performance to finish in second place with a total of 277. Despite being unable to match Thangaraja’s steady pace, Danushan showed immense promise and composure, putting pressure on the leader in the early stages.
Reshan Algama secured a well-deserved 3rd place finish with a total score of 281, thanks to a brilliant final round of 66. His earlier rounds of 73, 72, and 70 laid a steady foundation, but it was his composed finish on the final day that lifted him above close challengers. Algama’s strong improvement and maturity under pressure signalled his growing presence on the national golf circuit.
Meanwhile Lalith Kumara and Uchitha Ranasinghe shared fourth place with identical totals of 287, while Adhithya Weerasinghe and Jevahn Sathasivam rounded off the top performers in sixth and seventh respectively. (SJ)
