Test discard Oshada Fernando hit an unbeaten double hundred for Galle

Sri Lanka Test discard Oshada Fernando scored an unbeaten double century as Galle took control of the National Super League 4-day match against Colombo at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium yesterday.

Fernando struck 23 fours and one six as he reached his double hundred off the final over of the day to remain unbeaten on 200 scored off 280 balls – his 22nd first-class hundred, enabling Galle finish the second day on 361-5 in reply to Colombo’s first innings of 296.

Fernando and Nishan Peiris (46) put on 121 for the second wicket and later Lakshan Edirisinghe (46) helped Fernando add a further 104 for the fourth wicket for Galle to take a first innings lead of 65 by the end of the day.

Dambulla’s Acting Captain Sonal Dinusha scored his second first-class century – 112 off 146 balls (11 fours, 1 six) to see his team to a first innings total of 392 against Jaffna at the Pallekele Cricket Stadium on day two. Dinusha was the last wicket to fall after steering his team from their overnight score of 263-5. Left-arm spinner Dilum Sudeera finished with a five-fer. By the close Jaffna had replied with 121-3, still requiring 271 runs to gain the vital first innings lead. Both matches will be continued on their third day today.
