Team Blues’ unbeaten run of four matches was ended by Team Greens when they pulled off a thrilling four-run victory in their Women’s NSL T20 match played at the CCC Grounds yesterday.

Chasing a target of 123, Team Blues were well placed to win the contest, requiring 9 runs off the final over with five wickets in hand. But a run out of the first ball of the final over sparked a mini collapse, and Team Blues lost two further wickets to Udeshika Prabodhani and ended up scoring 118-8. Team Blues managed just four runs in the final over while losing three wickets.

Team Blues had no one to blame for the defeat but themselves as they bungled in the final over when they had it all virtually sewn up. Harshitha Samarawickrama (27) and Kaushini Nuthyangana (41 off 33 balls, 6 fours) were the principal scorers for Team Blues.

The experienced trio of Udeshika Prabodhani, Sugandika Kumari, and Oshadi Ranasinghe took two wickets apiece for Team Greens, who scored 122-5 after choosing to bat first. The main contribution came from skipper Hasini Perera, who scored 74 off 65 balls (7 fours, 1 six) while seamer Sathya Sandeepani helped herself to three wickets, conceding 24 runs.

In another low-scoring game played at the CCC Grounds, Team Greys got the better of Team Reds by 22 runs. Vishmi Gunaratne (33), Imesha Dulani (29), and Hansima Karunaratne (24) contributed the most for Team Greys in their total of 112-8. Left-arm wrist spinner Shashini Gimhani picked up three good wickets—that of Harshitha, Dulani, and Anushka Sanjeewani—conceding 18 runs.

Team Reds failed to capitalise on the start given by Sanjana Kavindi (35) and Umayangana Peiris (12), who put on 46 for the first wicket and lost seven wickets for 90 when the overs ran out. Right-arm seamer Malki Madara put the brakes on the Team Reds batting with 3/19.
