Women’s NSL T20 tournament
Team Green and Team Blues commenced the Women’s NSL T20 tournament with wins in the matches played at the BRC grounds yesterday.
Vitini de Alwis, daughter of two former Sri Lankan cricketers the late Guy de Alwis and Rasanjali de Alwis and leg-spinner Rashmi Silva bowled Team Green to a 33-run win over Team Red in the second match. Vitini who’s had experience playing in Australia struck 10 fours and 2 sixes in her 48-ball innings of 63 that helped Team Green run up a score of 153-6. She shared a 60 runs partnership with captain Hasini Perera (34 off 27). Shashini Gimhani, the 17-year-old left-arm wrist spinner finished with figures of 3/20 which included the wickets of Vitini, Hasini and Nilakshika Silva. Leg-spinner Rashmi Silva (4/19) shut the door on Team Red, bowling them out for 120. Umayangana Peiris top scored with 37.
Right-arm seamer Randi Premarathne (4/16) and left-arm spinner Sachini Nisansala (3/17) routed Team Grey for 97 to bring Team Blues a five-wicket win in the first match played for the day. Only two batters – Hansima Karunaratne (40* off 32 balls, 5 fours) and Sanduni Nisansala (31 off 27 balls, 3 fours) got into double figures. Imalka Mendis (43 off 53 balls, 2 fours) and Ama Kanchana (37* off 30 balls, 3 fours, 1 six) got Team Blues over the line sharing a stand of 69 after left-arm seamer Tharika Sewwandi (3/13) had reduced them to 24-4. – (ST)
