Sharujan Shanmuganathan top scored for Tamil Union with 43 | Panadura SC’s Dushan Hemantha wrecked Ace Capital CC’s innings with 3/26 |
Tamil Union displayed their fighting qualities to pull off a close seven-run win (DLS method) against Police SC in a SLC Major Club T20 match played at the Colts grounds yesterday.
Police SC did well to dismiss Tamil Union for 108 in the 19-overs-a-side game with only Sri Lanka Under-19 wicket-keeper/batsman Sharujan Shanmuganathan putting up any kind of resistance with a plucky knock of 43 off 42 balls. Police SC had the game in their control at 74-3 in the 12th over. But the relentless pressure brought about by Tamil Union saw them collapse for 101 with more than an over to spare. Spinners Sachitha Jayatilake (3/6), Tharindu Rathnayake (2/17) and Theesan Vithusan (2/19) applied the brakes on the Police SC scoring forcing the batsmen into errors.
Of the matches played in the morning, only one survived the vagaries of the weather when Panadura SC beat Ace Capital CC by five wickets at Colts grounds to move to second place in Group A behind Moors SC.
Ace Capital CC who were inserted to bat first had their innings interrupted by rain with the score on 99-7 off 16.4 overs at which point their innings ended. Panadura SC’s target was 101 off 16 overs and they got there in 14.4 scoring 102-5 with contributions of 32 and 28* from Vishen Halambage and Sasindu Malshan respectively. Pawan Pathiraja top scored for Ace Capital CC with 36* while Dushan Hemantha picked up three of their wickets conceding 26 runs.
The two matches scheduled to be played at the P Sara Oval - BRC v Nugegoda SWC and CCC v Badureliya SC and the two matches at the CCC grounds - Colts v Chilaw Marians CC and Moors SC v Kurunegala YCC were abandoned without a ball bowled due to rain and wet outfield. Each of the eight teams picked up a point.
