Sudden death of SLC Media Assistant Chanaka Silva

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Media Assistant Chanaka Silva passed away at the age of 40 due to a sudden illness yesterday afternoon. A PCR test is scheduled to be conducted to ascertain if he had contracted COVID-19.

Chanaka was a live wire in the media unit of SLC, playing a key role in handling the media-related work of SLC and the cricketers.

He was of great assistance to all the media personnel during international matches, ensuring they got all what is required to work in the comfort of the media box.

Chanaka has been a media assistant since 2012, having joined the institution in 2000. He was later assigned to the Surrey Cricket ground in Maggona by SLC.

His wife and two children (son and daughter) survive him.
