Strong comeback by Bangladesh to level series 1-all

Six-match Under-19 Youth ODI series

Bangladesh came back strongly to level the six-match Under-19 Youth ODI series 1-all with a commanding batting performance in the second match played at the CCC grounds yesterday.

Bangladesh’s right-arm quick Al Fahad took 6/44 as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 211 inside their quota of overs. The visitors then followed that fine performance with an authoritative batting display chasing down the total in 34.3 overs to win by nine wickets.

Opening batsman Zawad Abrar scored his maiden century at this level with an imposing knock of 130* off 106 balls (14 fours, 6 sixes) and shared an unbroken record stand of 180 with captain Azizul Hakim (69* off 89 balls, 5 fours, 3 sixes) as Bangladesh sailed home with 93 balls to spare. It was the highest second wicket partnership for Bangladesh in Under-19 cricket beating the 179 by Anamul Haque and Litton Das.

Sri Lanka winning the toss and batting first, lost their first three wickets for 49, but recovered through a fifth wicket partnership of 81 by Chamika Heenatigala (51 off 91 balls, 2 fours) and Dinura Damsith (47 off 52 balls, 3 fours, 2 sixes). But Al Fahad broke the stand and ran through the rest of the batting to end with career best figures.

Sri Lanka won the first match played at the same venue on Saturday by 98 runs. The third match of the series will take place tomorrow at the Colts grounds.
