Ragama CC pair Denura Demansith and Sanithu Amarasinghe shared a 140-run stand
Ragama CC put up staunch resistance in their second innings after being forced to follow-on to deny Colts an outright win in their SLC Under-23 inter-club 2-day match played at Salawa Army ground, Kosgama yesterday.
Shot out for 91 in their first innings in reply to Colts’ total of 310-7 declared, Ragama CC, batted out 71.1 overs in their second innings to score 243, leaving Colts hardly any time to chase down a moderate target of 25 for victory. Colts eventually had to settle for first innings points.
The resistance from Ragama CC came in the form of a second wicket stand of 140 between Sri Lanka Under-19 cricketer Denura Dimansith (83 off 103 balls, 11 fours) and former Wesleyite Sanithu Amarasinghe (63 of 109 balls, 10 fours). Following their dismissals, five runs of each other Ragama CC slid to 191-6, but some stern resistance put up by the late order batters ensured they didn’t lose by an innings. Former Sri Lanka Under-19 leg-spinner Praveen Maneesha (4/78) and off-spinner Tharana Wimaladharma (3/51) bowled best for Colts in the second innings. (ST)
