By Shamseer Jaleel
St. Peter’s College continued their blistering run in the Dialog Schools Under-19 Rugby League 2026 as they powered their way to a crushing 65-21 victory over newcomers Prince of Wales in their encounter played at the Air Force Grounds, Ratmalana, last evening.
At the short breather, the lads from Bambalapitiya led 34-0.
The Peterites once again underlined why they are among the strongest contenders this season, recording their third half-century-plus score in as many outings with another ruthless attacking display. Their speed, handling and finishing proved too much for the inexperienced Cambrians, who struggled to contain the relentless wave of attacks from the Bambalapitiya outfit.
At halftime, St. Peter’s had already taken firm control of proceedings with a commanding 34-0 lead after dominating both territory and possession. The forwards laid the foundation with strong phase play while the three-quarters capitalised brilliantly out wide.
Outstanding winger Nethshan Manthusha stole the spotlight with a superb hat-trick of tries. Ashok Krishan and Shenuka Perera crossed twice each while Jamal Wahab also bagged a brace. Hashara Madugasge and Aaqil Kamil added further tries to complete the rout. Geon Ranjit and Ashok Krishan shared the conversion duties.
To their credit, Prince of Wales fought back in the second half and managed to cross for a converted try while also being awarded two penalty goals. Their try was scored by Seneth Reshan, with Raveesha converting.
With this emphatic win, the Peterites have sent a strong warning to the rest of the competition, showing their tremendous depth and attacking firepower early in the season.
Referee Jeewaka Fonseka officiated the game.
There will be seven matches worked off today, with five games down for decision in Colombo and two in Kandy.
