Samadhi Pabasara was placed 7th
Sri Lanka’s swimmers put up commendable performances on the final day of the Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain, showing determination and potential against some of Asia’s finest young talents.
In the 100m freestyle, M.F. Mohamed
clocked 29.92 seconds in Heat 3, finishing a strong third in his group. He followed up with another impressive effort in the 200m freestyle, where he recorded 2:15.08 in Heat 1 to claim fourth place. His consistency throughout the competition reflected both promise and fighting spirit.
Meanwhile,
Jayden de Silva produced a solid swim in the 200m freestyle Heat 3, finishing fifth with a timing of 2:14.06, narrowly missing qualification to the next round. Adeetha Siriwardena, Lehara Melegoda, and Sasha Rajapakse also represented Sri Lanka in the 200m events. Adeetha clocked 2:39.34 in Heat 4 to finish eighth, while Lehara placed fourth in Heat 3 with 2:36.64. Sasha finished seventh in Heat 1 with a time of 2:45.00.
Although none of the swimmers advanced to the semi-finals, their performances reflected Sri Lanka’s growing depth in aquatic sports and valuable exposure at continental level competition which will be helpful for the future events in the near future.
In weightlifting, Samadhi Prabagaran competed in the 77kg category and finished seventh, bringing a spirited end to Sri Lanka’s campaign. Despite falling short of a medal, his effort was commendable in a highly competitive field.
With the conclusion of events, Sri Lanka wrapped up its campaign at the Asian Youth Games with one Gold, one Silver, and five Bronze medals – the nation’s best-ever performance across the three editions of the Games, marking a new milestone for the island’s youth sporting journey.
