Sri Lankan golfers, Chanaka Perera and Sachin de Silva combined superbly to clinch the prestigious Zia Ul Haq Trophy at 134th Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championship at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC).
The duo’s consistency proved decisive as they outplayed counterparts from Pakistan and Bangladesh to seal the team crown.
Perera carded a steady 71, while de Silva produced an equally composed 70, their partnership showcasing both skill and composure under pressure.
In the Gents segment, the top 32 players advanced to the knockout rounds. Among the top were the defending Champion, Jevahn Sathasivam, Reshan Algama, Chanaka Perera, Sachin de Silva, Chalitha Pushpika, Kushan Johnpillai, Adhithya Weerasinghe and some other Local golfers plus overseas golfers from Pakistan, Nepal, India, and Bangladesh.
The Ladies division also produced thrilling golf, with the leading eight qualifying for the quarterfinals. Kaya Daluwatte dominated the leaderboard with a superb aggregate of 142, followed by Asmara Sawhney, Anouk Chitty, Keya Abhayaratne, Jade Jiggens, Dinuka Boralessa, Sadamali Sumanaratne and Tiru Jesudasan.
With the knockout stages now underway in both the men’s and women’s categories, all eyes turn to RCGC, where the finals will be contested on 28 September promising a fitting climax to Sri Lanka’s premier amateur golf championship.
