Sri Lanka athletics lost a great coach with the sad demise of K.L.F. Wijedasa at the age of 93.
Wijedasa was one of the most senior officials in the Sri Lanka athletics field and held several positions as National Athletics Coach, Chairman of the National Athletics Selection Committee, Asian Athletics Technical Officer, area technical official, starter, time keeper, physical trainer, and administrator. He was also the former Director of Physical Education at the University of Colombo.
Wijedasa was an alumnus of Ananda College, Colombo, who guided Royal College, Colombo, to win the Sri Lanka Schools Tarbet Championship for consecutive years in the 1970s and 80s. He was a talented athlete and held the Sri Lanka men’s 100m record in the 1950s.
The remains of the late K.L.F. Wijedasa lie in state for public respect at his daughter’s residence at No. 3, Elibank Place, Colombo 5. The last rites will be performed today (6) at the Borella Cemetery new crematorium at 2:30 p.m.
