Sri Lanka Under-19 cricketers led by Vimath Dinsara signed off their seven-match tour of the West Indies with a convincing 130-run win on DLS method in the seventh and final Under-19 Youth ODI played at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua.
The win was somewhat a small compensation for Sri Lanka who had lost the series 4-3 to West Indies.
In a game reduced to 26 overs a side due to bad weather, Sri Lanka racked up an impressive 180-5 with Kavija Gamage and Dinsara making half-centuries.
Gamage struck 6 fours and one six in his 38-ball 51, and Dinsara 3 fours and 3 sixes in his score of 58* off 39 balls.
West Indies’ batting collapsed for 62 with Gamage, the Kingswood College all-rounder, displaying his skill with the ball by taking 4/9 off 4 overs with his off-breaks.
Gamage finished as the stand-out all-rounder for Sri Lanka in the series with 269 runs (avg. 44.83) and 8 wickets (avg. 15.00), while Jaffna Hartley College right-arm leg-spinner Vigneshwaran Akash stood head and shoulders in the bowling with a handsome haul of 20 wickets (avg. 9.10).
Scores: Sri Lanka (Under-19) 180-5 (26) (Dimantha Mahavithana 26, Viran Chamuditha 25, Kavija Gamage 51, Vimath Dinsara 58*, Isra-el Morton 3/30)
West Indies (Under-19) 62 (14.2) (Joshua Dorne 16, Sethmika Seneviratne 2/20, Rasith Nimsara 2/9, Kavija Gamage 4/9, Vigneshwaran Akash 2/12)
