Sri Lanka Women (U19) spin quartet of Captain Chamodi Praboda, Limansa Thilakarathna, Aseni Thalagune and Shashini Gimhani
Sri Lanka U19 Women’s cricket team led by Chamodi Praboda emerged champions of the Under19 Women’s Tri-Series in Australia featuring unofficial WODI and T20I matches.
At the end of the series Sri Lanka Women finished on top of the table with five wins and one loss from six matches totalling 20 points. Australia were second with four wins and two losses and 16 points. England finished last with no points losing all six matches.
Sri Lanka’s only loss was to Australia in the WODI by one wicket otherwise they were dominant in all the other matches especially the WT20 games where they won all 4 games beating host Australia and England twice each.
The WT20I matches played at the Bill Pippen Oval in Gold Coast and the Ian Healy Oval in Brisbane turned out to be low scoring affairs with 136-6 by Sri Lanka against England being the highest total.
Sri Lanka’s match winners were their four-pronged spin attack comprising the captain Chamodi (left-arm spin), Aseni Thalagune (off-spin), Limansa Thilakarathna (right-arm leg-spin) and Shashini Gimhani (left-arm wrist spin). These four spinners turned out to be a handful for the Australian and England batters who failed to come to terms with their guile and flight. They accounted for 32 of the 39 wickets to fall to the bowlers.
Limansa finished as the top wicket-taker with 11 wickets (avg. 7.36) followed by Chamodi 9 wickets (avg. 9.66), Aseni 7 wickets (avg. 8.57) and Shashini 5 wickets (avg. 9.00).
