Sri Lanka Emerging Players-West Indies Academy locked in battle for supremacy

Sri Lanka Emerging Players and West Indies Academy were locked in a battle for supremacy in the first 4-day unofficial test played at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Cricket Stadium in Hambantota.

By stumps on the second day, West Indies Academy in reply to Sri Lanka Emerging Players first innings score of 356 were 273-5 trailing by 83 runs to gain a first innings lead.

Sri Lanka Emerging Players carried their overnight total of 302-8 to 356 with Anjala Bandara going onto score a monumental 163 off 217 balls (19 fours). He was the last batsman to be dismissed after adding 142 crucial runs for the ninth wicket with Nisala Abeyratne (48 off 92 balls, 7 fours) that saw Sri Lanka Emerging Players recover from 133-7.

West Indies Academy got their innings underway briskly with their openers posting 42 inside the first six overs. They lost their first four wickets for 134 with Mavendra Dindyal contributing 60 of them off 79 balls (6 fours, 1 six).

Shaqkere Parris and skipper Rivaldo Clarke gave the middle order batting a boost by sharing a century stand of 115. Parris made 55 off 115 balls (3 fours), but Clarke carried on till the close to remain unbeaten on a well-constructed 72 off 132 balls (7 fours, 1 six).

Shakthi Udara, the 23-year-old former slow left-arm orthodox bowler from Ananda College was Sri Lanka Emerging Players most successful bowler taking 3/85 off 26 overs. The match continues on its third day today. – [ST]
