The Sri Lanka Badminton’s Regional Development Committee kicked off the second edition of the Shuttle Time programme, an island-wide initiative to promote the sport among school children.

The Shuttle Time programme, overseen by Sri Lanka Badminton and the Ministry of Sports, successfully launched its first activities of the year at two underprivileged schools in the Kantale area of the Trincomalee District and in Tawalama, Galle District.

The programme, which marked a huge success in its inaugural edition last year, aims to reach all 25 Districts inclusively.

A unique feature of the programme is its adaptability, offering badminton activities suitable for both indoor classroom settings and outdoor spaces, specifically targeting children under 11 years of age. Participants who demonstrate exceptional skills will be given the opportunity to join the under-15 regional badminton development squads in their respective Districts.

In addition to that, the programme is committed to equipping each of the 25 selected schools with necessary badminton equipment and providing their contributing teachers with the international Shuttle Time Teacher Certifications.

“The programme is closely monitored and supported by Sri Lanka Badminton President Rohan De Silva under the endorsement of the Badminton World Federation and the Badminton Asia,” Chairman of the Regional Development Committee Roshan Gunawardena said, extending his gratitude for the advisory and contributions from the Badminton Coaches Training Committee Chairman Buddhika Silva.
