The ite ball cricket series between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan in the UAE from 13-25 March is in doubt after Iranian strikes across the Middle East on Sunday following the death of Iran’s supreme leader in US-Israeli attacks.

The strikes also hit the Dubai International Airport, one of the busiest airports in the world that has resulted in several airlines temporarily suspending flights to and from Dubai.

“We are supposed to go to Dubai on 10 March. We have to assess the situation within the next couple of days in the UAE before we take a decision,” said Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Ashley de Silva.

“We are closely monitoring the situation in the Middle East. If this continues, I don’t think even Afghanistan will be able to travel to the UAE. Safety is our primary concern, if there is the slightest risk we will not go ahead with the tour.”

Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are due to play a 3-match T20I series in Sharjah on 13, 15 and 17 March before moving to Dubai for a 3-match ODI series on 20, 22 and 25 March. – [ST]
