India ‘A’ fast bowler Gurnoor Brar celebrates taking 6/68 in Sri Lanka ‘A’s second innings
India ‘A’ showed their dominance in the two-match 4-day unofficial Test series when they won the second match by 10 wickets against Sri Lanka ‘A’ to pocket the series 1-0 at the Galle Cricket Stadium yesterday.
After India ‘A’ had gained a huge first innings lead of 177, Sri Lanka ‘A’ faced a daunting task to bat out the fourth and final day and force a draw. However, the batsmen, who had failed to come up with any big contributions in the first innings barring skipper Sahan Arachchige, were simply not up to the task and succumbed to Punjab fast bowler Gurnoor Brar. Playing in only his 19th first-class match, Brar ran through the batting to finish with figures of 6/68 off 12.3 overs, giving him match figures of 10/145.
Ashen Bandara counter-attacked to score a breezy 87 off 86 balls (11 fours, 2 sixes) but otherwise, there was not much resistance coming from the rest of the batters as Sri Lanka ‘A’ were bowled out for 209.
India ‘A,’ left with the formal task of chasing down 33 for victory, did so with the minimum of fuss, reaching 36 without a loss in a matter of 6.2 overs.
When India ‘A’ resumed from their overnight total of 541-8, off-spinner Keshara Nuwantha took the last wicket to end with figures of 5/159 of 50.3 overs.
India ‘A’ completed a successful tour of Sri Lanka, winning the ‘A’ Team ODI Tri-Series as well as the two-match 4-day unofficial Test series. – [ST]
